Memorial Day ceremonies are important, but our gratitude must be more than visits with troops and once-a-year holiday vacations. As we set aside this day to thank and honor our veterans, let us all be mindful that we should do this every day of the year and not just one. We honor the dead best by treating the living well. Today I share a few of my favorite Memorial Day quotes:
This nation will remain free only so long as it is the home of the brave.
Elmer Davis
Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility.
Eleanor Roosevelt
Those who have enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
“…And if words cannot repay the debt we owe these men, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice.
Ronald Regan
But perhaps Claudia Pemberton said it best.
America without her soldiers would be like God without His angels.
